Munster Olympic Handball Finals

Well done to our girls who narrowly lost the Munster Olympic Handball Final by 1 goal today in Cork.

There was an early start for the girls who left Herbertstown before 8am to travel to the Neptune Stadium in Cork City for the Munster Olympic Handball Finals. Herbertstown NS were representing Limerick having won the county final earlier this year.

In the first game, the girls defeated the Kerry champions, Castledrum Ns, 8 goals to 4.

In the second game, Herbertstown defeated the Cork champions, Shandrum NS, 9 goals to 8.

In the final group game, Herbertstown beat Tipperary champions Lisvernane NS 10 goals to 6.

This set up a semi-final where the first placed team in the group (Herbertstown) would play the 4th placed team (Castledrum). The girls played very well and edged a close game by 1 goal.

In the final, the girls met Lisvernane NS once again. The Tipperary champions got the best start they could have hoped for with 3 quick-fire goals and at half time we were trailing 5 goals to 2. Our girls showed tremendous heart and determination to score 4 second half goals but just ran out of time and ended up losing by a single goal, 7 – 6.

They were very unlucky to miss out on the title having played so well over the course of the full day and were fantastic ambassadors for their school & county.
