Olympian Thomas Barr Visits the School

Monday was a very memorable day for all the children in the school as we had a visit from one of Ireland’s most well known athletes, Thomas Barr.

Thomas, who finished 4th in the 400m hurdles at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and won a gold medal in the mixed 4×400 relay in Rome last year, visited the school as part of the Dare to Believe programme.

Our 5th and 6th class pupils had been working their way through the programme since before Christmas and have learned a huge amount about the Olympic games and their values.

Thomas met all the children in the school at a brief assembly and then spent the rest of the morning with 5th and 6th class telling them about his journey and answering questions. There was even time for some exercises outside which the pupils thoroughly enjoyed.

Before Thomas left, a presentation was made to him of a piece of art which the children had made over the past month to mark his visit.
