The girls faced tough opposition in a determined Scoil Dean Cussen side. Two first half goals from Ellie Dooley and Emily Higgins helped Herbertstown to a 2.00 to 0.01 lead at the break.
The second half was very tense with scores at a premium. Bruff scored an early goal before Emily tapped over a point at the other end to set up a tense finish. A massive effort from the Herbertstown defence ensured that Bruff only added a further point and our girls held on for a 2.01 to 1.02 win.
The girls will now go on to represent the South in the County semi-final in November.
Our boys were in hard luck in the Roinn C final earlier today. Manister were the opposition and an early goal by Conor Mulcahy gave Herbertstown the lead before Manister levelled to make it 1 goal a piece at half time.
A quick goal and point by Manister gave them the advantage early in the second half before Herbertstown rallied through a goal by Cormac Dundon. However, Manister finished the stronger by adding some insurance points which helped them hang on for the win.
The girls played some terrific football on their way to winning all their matches in a very tough group which featured Hospital NS, Knockainey NS, Ballylanders NS and last year’s County Mini 7s champions Kilbehenny NS.
Our boys’ team were also in action and they put in some great performances. In their first game they drew with Kilbehenny NS. A narrow defeat to eventual winners Ballylanders NS followed before they finished out their day with a win over Knockainey NS. Well done boys.
Finally, on a busy day of Cumann na mBunscol action for the school, our 3rd & 4th class girls played in a blitz in Hospital. This was a great experience for them with plenty more days out with the school’s teams ahead for them.
They brought along the cup and gave sweets to all the pupils in the school. It was great to have our past pupils Tadhg O’Connell and Seán Hennessy returning to the school among the group that visited from the team.
The boys topped their group following wins over Kilbehenny NS, Knocklong NS and Effin NS and they will now face Manister NS in the final in a couple of weeks.
