Ned Daly Shield 2021

Kerry clinch Ned Daly Shield honours for 2021 with a narrow win over Mayo.

In a superb game of football, played between teams from fifth class, the Mr Franklin coached Kerry side got the telling scores in the final moments to win the Ned Daly Shield.

Congratulations to both teams on great performances and a big thank you to Dylan O’Connor who referred the game.

Pádraig Pearse Cup 2021

Dublin claim the 2021 Padraig Pearse Cup.

On Wednesday a football match between two teams from within the sixth class bubble took place.

The teams, Dublin (coached by Mr Franklin) and Galway (coached by Mr Fitzgerald), had been picked some weeks previous and had been training during lunch time ahead of the game.

The onlooking support from the other classes in the school were treated to a lively encounter, full of skill and enthusiasm. Dublin built on a half time lead to stretch ahead by 8 points in the second half. However, some quickfire goals from Galway brought the deficit back to one point with around a minute to go. Dublin held their nerve and landed a late point to secure a two point win.

Afterwards, Mrs Heelan presented the Pádraig Pearse Cup to the Dublin captain.

Coaching with James Ryan

Limerick Gaelic Games Administrator James Ryan made a welcome return to the school on Friday last to provide coaching for each class group.

James will be with us on Fridays right into December and he is making great use of our new astro-turf facility to deliver the sessions.

Pedal to the Peak Pitch

There will be great activity at the school this week as the contractors will arrive on site on Wednesday 5th August to install an All Weather Pitch. This is the result of the fundraising efforts of the Pedal to the Peak crew, committe and whole school community in addition to the generous donation from Thomas McCarthy, cash prizes from Cumann na mBunscol awards and general fundraising efforts such as Carol singing, Christmas shows etc.

The pitch will be 17m x 28m enclosed with fencing and also ball stop netting. It will be located at the back of the school along the boundary fence, mostly on the grass but extending onto the basketball court. The location was determined by the underground percolation system which runs the length of the grass area from the front wall to the back fence along by the evergreen trees. We had to avoid building on these pipes and so located the pitch in the best spot according to site limitations, allowing for the proposed extension also.

The pitch will be completed in time for our return to school and will be a huge boost to us all as we return to school after the extended closure and facing into a new normal. It will be a huge asset to all as regards break times, PE lessons and training.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone for raising the money to make this possible and for your patience while the plan was formulated and the obstacles overcome.

We hope all the boys and girls will get many days of enjoyment and pleasure from the ‘Pedal to the Peak Pitch’.
