Anthony Baggott Cup

Knockainey NS were winners of the 2024 Anthony Baggott.

This was Knockainey’s third time winning the tournament which took place during national Cumann na mBunscol Week. The traditional group of schools took part; Caherline NS, Knockainey NS, Hospital NS and of course our own side from Herbertstown NS.

Herbertstown NS reached the final after winning all three of their group games. However, Knockainey produced a very good second half display to win the final.

Next year will be the 10th edition of the tournament and we are already looking forward to that.

Harry Greensmyth Cup

Well done to our hurlers from 3rd and 4th class who took part in South Limerick’s 3rd & 4th class competition earlier today.

They had games against Scoil Mocheallóg (who had two teams) and Hospital NS. Hospital NS ran out impressive winners but our team played some great hurling and will have really benefited from the games today.

It was great to be part of the event where the winning team is presented with the Harry Greensmyth Cup. Harry did a huge amount of work to promote Gaelic Games, not only in South Limerick but especially in the parish here.

Busy day of Cumann na mBunscol activity

Herbertstown NS pupils were in action in three different places today.

Our girls’ football team made up of pupils from 4th & 5th class travelled to John the Baptist CS to take part in a fun blitz there.

Well done to our team of hurlers who represented the school at the divisional stage of the Primary Schools Skills competition where they finished second. They now go on to compete in the county finals.

Back at school, training continued for the upcoming South blitzes and the Anthony Baggott Cup.

South Limerick win Mackey Cup

Congratulations to everyone involved in South Limerick’s win in the Mackey Cup yesterday. The South defeated Limerick City in the semi-final and then West Limerick in the final by a soliditary point.

Special congratulations to Fionn from Herbertstown NS who played a crucial role in the win.

Munster Final – Olympic Handball

Well done to our boys team who were runners-up in the Munster Olympic Handball Finals.

In the first round, the boys defeated Tipperary’s Lisvernane NS 7-6. In the second round, they had two goals to spare over Castledrum NS from Kerry, 6-4.

This set up a Munster Final with Crosshaven NS from Cork. Anyone present in the Neptune Stadium was treated to an excellent game of end-to-end handball, with the lead exchanging many times throughout the game. With a little over a minute left, our team were winning by a goal. Crosshaven scored and it looked like extra time was going to be needed but the Cork team managed to sneak a goal with the final play of the game to take the win. Crosshaven NS 8 Herbertstown NS 7.

Our boys were fantastic throughout the day and can hold their heads up high as one of the best teams in Munster.
