Congratulations to our girls who won the Limerick Olympic Handball competition on Wednesday in UL.
The girls won all 3 of their group games and then a semi-final and a final on the way to winning the competition. The girls go forward to represent Limerick at the Munster Finals in Cork on March 11th.
Well done also to our boys who reached the semi-final of the competition and played very well throughout the day.
The boys had qualified for the county finals having come through a qualifying round before Christmas.
In the first game, they defeated Croom NS by 6 goals to 3. Next up was Scoil Dean Cussen, where the boys had 2 goals to spare, 7-5. The final group game was against our neighbours Hospital NS and this game went right down to the wire, with only 1 goal separating the teams at the end, 5-4.
This set up a final between Herbertstown and Croom. Our boys raced ahead, going 3-0 up in the first few minutes. But by half time, the game had been turned on its head as Croom scored 4 unanswered goals to take a 1 goal lead into the break. Herbertstown showed great composure to go out in the second half and retake the lead before Croom levelled to force extra time.
Both teams had chances during extra time but some outstanding saves by the goalkeepers at either end were keeping the game in the balance. It was a superb Herbertstown breakaway team goal which gave them the all important advantage. Croom had one last shot which blazed over the bar before the celebrations could begin for the boys in Maroon.
They will now go forward to represent Limerick at the Munster Finals in the Neptune Stadium, Cork on March 12th.

We had boys and girls teams representing the school at the Olympic Handball Limerick Finals in Croom on Wednesday. Well done to our boys who played in some terrific games and finished in third place.
Our girls were crowned county champions after winning all their games and they will now go forward to represent Limerick at the National Olympic Handball Finals in either April or May.
