Limerick Primary Schools Athletics

48 athletes from Herbertstown NS took to the track in UL on Wednesday at the Limerick Primary Schools athletics.

Pupils took part in a range of events from 80 metre races to 400 metre races, long jump and relays.

After all the events were completed, both our girls’ and boys’ teams finished very close second in both categories.

Well done to everyone that took part and a big thank you to all who supported the school on the day with transport.

FAI Primary 5s Semi-Finals

Our boys’ and girls’ teams travelled to Corbally yesterday to take part in the semi-finals of the Limerick FAI Primary 5s competition.

The boys won their first game and drew their second game. Unfortunately, they were eliminated from the competition on goal difference despite being unbeaten throughout the whole event.

The girls won both of their games which secured their place in the County Final next Wednesday.

Well done to both teams on great performances across the whole competition.

Neville Cup Success

Massive congratulations to the Herbertstown quartet who helped South Limerick to win the Neville Cup in Rathkeale yesterday. The South defeated the East in the semi-final and then overcame the challenge of Limerick City in the final.

In an added piece of history for our school, the South’s captain was a Herbertstown NS pupil.  Eithne Neville was present in Rathkeale to present the cup named in her honour to Lucy.

Well done girls on a fantastic achievement.

Third Class Trip to Hospital Handball Club

Mrs Murphy’s class made the short trip to Hospital on Monday where they were given an introduction to Handball by Johnny Penny of Limerick Handball.

The boys and girls got great exercise and were able to practise some of the skills associated with the game.

Many thanks to Johnny who facilitated the school’s visit.

Hospital Handball Club have training for juvenile players on Sundays from 2:30-4:30pm and are always happy to welcome new players if anyone is interested in trying the sport out.

Olympic Handball – Herbertstown NS Girls Qualify for National Finals

We had boys and girls teams representing the school at the Olympic Handball Limerick Finals in Croom on Wednesday. Well done to our boys who played in some terrific games and finished in third place.

Our girls were crowned county champions after winning all their games and they will now go forward to represent Limerick at the National Olympic Handball Finals in either April or May.

Dare to Believe

Congratulations to Sixth Class who have completed the Dare to Believe Olympics Schools programme.

Following the very successful visit of Limerick Olympian Sarah Lavin to the school, sixth class had to complete their Dare to Believe log books. Once this was completed, their hard work led them to being awarded a Olympic Ireland Dare to Believe Flag. We look forward to raising this flag in 2023. The class also received commemorative Irish Olympic pins as a memento of their work in the programme.

Well done to all the class.
